Top Five Reasons to Prep for the GMAT this Summer
- The economy may be heading south, but some companies still offer a nice perk: reduced summer hours. If not, many industries at least have slow downs over the summer. You might even experience unofficial "summer hours" because you won't have to work as late. Use those extra free hours to prepare for the GMAT.
- Get a head start on the admissions process by taking the GMAT during the summer. This will allow you to apply to business school earlier in the admissions cycle, when there are more spots available, giving you a leg up on the competition. What's more, by splitting GMAT prep from the application process in the fall, you'll have more time to devote to your essay, resume, and application details.
- Many testing centers have more test takers than appointments, and it is becoming more and more difficult to get convenient appointments, particularly on the weekends. Summer hours come into play here, too. Your schedule, and your supervisor, might be more flexible.
- No one wants to take the GMAT more than once, but a surprising number of people do. Taking the test over the summer will give you plenty of time to take it again, if necessary, and still beat, or at least meet, all of your application deadlines. Perhaps more importantly, you can prevent having to take the test again by using your free hours in the summer to adequately prepare for the test (see Reason #1).
- The truth is that preparing for the GMAT is a necessary evil if you want to get your best possible score. Make your preparation more palatable by taking advantage of great weather and studying outdoors. Why not work on your tan as you work on your test-taking skills?
